Apple's' Findmy 'feature officially launched in South Korea, ending years of absence

Apple recently announced that its popular "Find My" feature has officially been launched in South Korea. This decision has ended the long-standing situation of the country being unable to use the service and responded to the expectations of local users for many years. Previously, although Apple sold devices in Korea that supported the "search" function (such as AirTags), due to functional limitations, these products could not fully function in Korea.

Why has South Korea been absent from the 'Find Me' function for a long time?

Apple has never publicly explained why it previously restricted South Korean users from accessing the "search" function, but there is widespread speculation that this is related to local data privacy laws in South Korea, which may involve government access to location data. It is worth noting that the service was previously available in remote areas of South Korea, such as Baekgyeong Island and Ulleung Island, but local users have been unable to enjoy full functionality.

With the release of iOS 18.4 Beta, the "Find" feature has made its debut in South Korea, and the latest official software update has finally opened this service to all users.

Apple executive: Provide users with stronger item tracking capabilities

David Dorn, Senior Director of Service Products at Apple Inc., stated in a statement on Apple Korea's official website:

'Search' is an important tool that helps users locate the most precious things to them, whether they are friends, family, or personal belongings. We are pleased to introduce this feature to Korea

The Evolution and Latest Features of "Search"

The modern version of "Find" was released in the United States with iOS 13 in 2019, but its predecessor can be traced back to "Find My iPhone" in 2010. In recent years, Apple has continuously expanded this feature, such as allowing users to share the location of lost items with strangers for more efficient negotiation of return matters.
